I have been listening to Hatcha/Crazy D mixes from their weekly show on kiss in the UK. Coki and 16bit are my favorites. It has been the soundtrack to long walks around the city. Coki really presses existential weight in his productions. I think it is the most honest type of music i have heard to the times we live in. Humans and machines warping in mutated relationships with extremely dark conclusions and uneasy outcomes. Crazy D keeps it in balance with the constant shout outs and toasting dog noises. I have been reading Nick Land's newly released book Fanged Noumenia put out by Urbanomic which perfectly compliments the sounds of the dubsteppers. For those interested... check out Nick Land's blog Urban Future .......I recently did live sound engineering for an extraordinary musician. Her name is Miranda Cuckson. She did a solo violin performance on Un Ser Con Alas Enormes by Ileana Perez-Velazquez which was completely engaged and passionately executed. It was a rare example of an acoustic musician going head to head with an electronic element and creating a exchange which was alive and vital. .

i have been busy as of late with a new site called Book Friendzy! which is mostly video clips of people talking about their favorite books and things to do with books. It is nearly March and it is a rainy evening. Sometimes I love to eat raw beets. It is kind of like ruby colored dirt packed with secret minerals.
I saw an amazing movie at the Japan Society here in NYC. The movie was part of a series called Shinjuku Ecstasy which goes until this sunday. It is a celebration of the Art Theatre Guild which released some truly wonderful movies in the late 1960's and early 1970's. "The Inferno of First Love" is a very beautiful movie. One of the best.

i was in Peter Pan Donuts yesterday and the girl behind the counter who was wearing a sailors hat told a customer that it was Daniel Johnston's birthday! The customer had no idea who he was. She gave the man a brief rundown before he left with his creme donut. I felt it was a perfect way to hear about his birthday! So Daniel Johnston! Happy belated birthday!! Thank you for the music and the art!

bōnenkai! last night was a small party of flaming alcohol and a fondue pot. we listened and danced to the 2001 space odyssey soundtrack as the clock struck midnight. this picture is by the japanese artist ryu itadani. i found it in an interview with the artist in the last article by the folks at PingMag who are going on an indefinite hiatus.

Getting off of tour feels like jumping out of a car into a sleeping bed. I haven't been able to dream like this in a long time. I went to a place called five leaves for dinner and ate a salad. The sky doesn't look so different from the northwest, just more angry. I have read a good book about neil young called shakey. there is a chapter about a record he made with crazy horse called "tonight's the night"...the producer smashed a hole in the wall of their rehearsal room and backed a recording truck up to the hole, and that became the recording studio...they were all upset about two friends who had overdosed on heroin...they drank alot of tequila, and did a bunch of coke, and recorded the record. when i was in seattle i was looking for a book by steven jesse bernstein, a poet who many called the godfather of grunge. i'm not sure they are so easy to come by these days. there is a bookstore in the pike's market called left bank books...be sure to go if you're in seattle.

The summer supposedly ended last weekend, and who knows, maybe it did? it depends on who you ask. you can see the light changing, and i guess that's as good of a sign as any. in the new issue of arthur magazine in the bull tongue section the grand hotel was written up. it goes as follows:
We reviewed a cassette by The Grand Hotel a long time ago. It was really weird and out of nowhere, and we figured whoever these magicians were, they probably would evaporate sooner rather than later as such monumentalists are wont to do. Seems like they've been kinda alive and well and gigging close by our environs once or twice. Who are they? We kinda pride ourselves on knowing when shit is going down at any given time in any given basement but The Grand Hotel has us kinda sniffing sideways in "huh?" Adding to our delightful bafflement is a goddamned LP in an edition of goddamned 100 copies with goddamned silkscreen covers and purportedly recorded in Lake Tahoe, Palo Alto, Hopewell Junction and New Orleans. Either someone's pulling our dick or we're just too bizzy doin' jus' dat ourselves cuz this "The Sailboat Mix LP" (felt records) is as enchanting and unpretentious and sweet a slab of huzz-grind improv slather yr likely to grib any which way. What the fuck?
